I bought a new 24mm Elmarit last year. Great lens, but a few months ago, the coating on the front element started coming off, with pictures shot through it looking like they were done through a vaslaline smeared filter. I sent the lens to Leica in New Jersey, who had to send it to Leica in Germany. That was over three months ago. I have phoned the NJ office regularly and am simply told the above -- the lens is in Germany and it could take forever to fix it, and sorry sir, oh well. I must add that the folks in New Jersey are always very nice, never rude, and other items I've had repaired there have always come back in a timely manner. I have no complaints about them. I just want my lens -- or the first-born back that I traded for it. Anyway, so what's this Germany place? I get the feeling that there is machine in New Jersey with "Germany" stenciled on the front, with a large funnel attachment on the top that they toss cameras and stuff into. There's a loud sucking sound as the objects disappear into a black void, never to be seen again. "Sorry sir, " she said with a smile in her voice, your lens is in Germany." Grr vent.
