I'm looking though Zeiss close in progressives now!! Marc! you should check this out!! http://spectacle.zeissdata.com/consumer/index.html "...there's no better choice than Gradal® Top premium progressives which provide perfect vision all day long, indoors and out. You'll enjoy comfortable, natural vision from the outset with no adaptation delays or conspicuous rocking or swimming effects. Choose from a huge variety of high-tech materials, including the super-light and slim 1.67 Super Hi-Index plastic. The outstanding design of Gradal® Top out-performs all other multifocal and progressive lenses on the market." "computer and indoor tasks If you work at a computer or engage in any activity that requires even wider fields of vision at intermediate and near distances (like cooking, sewing, studying, even model-making!), you need glasses that allow your eyes to focus smoothly between near and intermediate distances. Gradal® RD* is the first progressive lens specially designed for office and indoor environments. With Gradal® RD, there's no need to peek over your lenses or exchange your eyeglasses while working; everything in the middle and close distances will be crystal clear. You’ll experience exceptionally wide viewing areas not possible with other progressive lenses. And with a viewing distance of up to 10 feet, you'll have the freedom to move around with your glasses on. *Gradal® RD is not suitable for driving." In other words they're macro bifocals. The meaty part in the middle is focused at computer monitor distance. I find them eminently useful. I understand they can be optimized for any distance. Mine are just a few feet shy of being useful for my home entertainment system (TV)! That's ok I'll just curl up around a good book!
