When working in an environment where there is rapid action all around, 1/250th sec. is often a minimum for sharpness, while high sun and baseball caps make fill flash necessary. Under those conditions you can't assume you'll have the time to change film and make all equipment adjustments necessary when following procedures as described above. <<Whats easier and cheaper, paying for and carrying a complete F5 outfit or changing a roll of film?>> Anticipate what you may need, carry as little as possible.
