Set up with the 4x5 10 feet off the road, looking deep into a grove of aspen in the sunset. Cars would stop, and when they found out that there wasn't an animal of any sort within 5 miles, they would jump back into their cars and race on to the next wildlife traffic jam. Kinda makes me glad, tho... If everyone had the patience to find the great images, this wouldn't be anywhere near as fun. I love going place with friends etc., taking an image in a similar place and time, and blowing their socks off with a better composition, light, and of course, the superior Leica lens quality! Of course, sometimes it backfires, and you have to beg the guy with the $45.00 p&s for his negs... Jay Burleson "Smoke me a kipper boys, I'll be back for breakfast!" http://www.jayburleson.com/ - -----Original Message----- From: Bob Stack [mailto:ticino@earthlink.net] Wonderful stories. I will add a couple of my own. (1) I was photographing with a friend last June along the Ice Fields Parkway north of Lake Louise, Canada. We had set up our cameras several hundred feet above the road and pointed at a substantial glacier. Three energetic folks climb the embankment to tap my friend on the shoulder while he was under his dark cloth. They wanted to know what he was photographing. He popped his head out, pointed at the glacier and said: "The elephants, a big heard right up there.". (2) We are down an embankment on a small pond with great light. Suddenly a car come sliding to a noisy halt in gravel above us. Car door slams. and down crashing through the brush comes a guy to ask us, out of breath: "What are you photographing, fish?" (3) I have my R-8 on a tripod, waiting for the light to change. I walk 10 yards or so from my position to get some water. While doing this a women walks past me to my camera, looks through the viewfinder and adjusts the ball head to get a composition to her liking. I'm sure we all have stories like these, but all three occurred on the same day in the space of 4 hours. Must be the Canadian water. :>) Best regards, Bob Stack
