Yes, same thing here in the states.  Gaffer tape is an
expensive version  ofduct tape used to do all jobs except
duties on the camera.

Camera tape is similar to tape that Eastman K. puts around
film cans of motion picture stock . . . more like athletic
adhesive tape, or as someone posted earlier, hockey tape.
