I have decided on an APO lens because I will want to use the APO extender from Leitz later on. There are two lens for sale on Ebay. One is "for Leica R" Angenieux DEM 180mm 2.3 APO-R and the other is the well known LEICA 180/3.4 APO- R.-ROM. Does anyone have any experience with the Angenieux lens. I want to use this for wildlife photography and sharpness and contrast is important. All things being equal, I would opt for the faster lens because of the extender, but I don't really know if all things are equal in this comparison. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ____________________________ The Rev'd Charles E Cason Jr St. Peter's Episcopal Church (Ripon WI) 1805 Arlington Drive Oshkosh, WI 54904 (920) 231-8851 Mailto:cec@vbe.com <<< I'm using the f/3.4 APO-Telyt. It's an old design that has been eclipsed by the likes of the 180mm APO-Elmarit-R. Having noted its antiquity and obsolete design, I'm still delighted with its optical performance. Put some Kodachrome behind it and a tripod under it and find Nirvana. When pushed to extremes like sun in or near the picture area a small amount of ghosting will show up but is usually gone if you stop down to f/5.6. This shouldn't be a problem; think about it, how often would you use an aperture wider than f/5.6 with the sun in the picture??? This lens can't be used with the 1.4 extender because the extender protrudes too far forward. The 2x extender should work fine. Doug Herr Birdman of Sacramento http://www.wildlightphoto.com
