I never thought I would come to this, but I actually use my 12mm
ultra-heliar WITHOUT a UV filter.  I did buy the filter attachment thingy,
but only plan on using it when I shoot with infrared film with a red filter.

My reasoning in this one exception to my normal useage of UV filters, is
that with the huge depth of field of this lens, I really don't want any
extra glass inches away from the front element of the lens for fear that
any dust or smudges on the filter may actually manefest themselves in the
photograph (in a similar way that water marks on the front element of video
camera lenses actually show up in the video itself).
