Here is the link: http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/v18/msg11878.html As far as changes, I know that Leica has revised the electronics at least once to fix the aforementioned problem of locking up. The early electronics were quite susceptible to static discharge and caused the cameras to lock. Also problems with other things like the LCD panel on the back were worked out after early cameras had problems. I don't believe any modifications have been made to the specifications of the camera itself, only improvements to the parts. But then this is what you would want to know if you were going to buy a new one. You would not want an early serial number camera because of the improvements made during the production life cycle. - -----Original Message----- From: Simon Lamb [mailto:simon@sclamb.com] Sent: Thursday, April 19, 2001 11:25 AM To: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us Subject: Re: [Leica] R8 serial number Tom My understanding is that Leica make batches of equipment that are stored and then units are taken for distribution. I do not believe they take these boxes in manufacture or numerical order so you may get newly manufactured equipment in a store or two year old equipment - still new but only just distributed. Of course, Leica cameras are not FMCG products so they may be in the store for a few months also. This only becomes an issue if there have been design modifications and you would therefore want to buy the latest version. Has the R8 had such design mods in its five year life?
