I've just had a look at Ffordes web site, the lens hood costs 65 UKP!!! I
think I'll be trying a few rolls of film before I considering buying one.

I have a new version 3E, and I spent a week in Belize with it in February
(lots of sun down there...) I don't have a hood for it, and I had only one
frame with flare out of about 8 rolls I shot with it. This included much
shooting directly into the sun, and a lot of heavily back-lit stuff. IMO
this lens is about as flare-free as a lens can be - the one shot with flare
was a vertical with the sun just out of the frame at the very top - one of
the toughest situations for any lens, I think.

The accessory hood (available separately) would block a lot more of the VF,
and I don't think it would materially improve the performance of the lens.
I think these are the reasons why Leica doesn't supply the hood with the
lens. For protection I just use the lens cap.
