Subject: [Leica] Leica Day, Milton Keynes

Yesterday there was a 'Leica Day' organised by the LHS here in Britain,
sort of the equivalent of the LHSA weekend, only shorter!

There was a good turnout, about 130, and among them quite a few LUGgites.
Erwin was there (having sailed over from the Netherlands), with Ron Clark
of Hove Books and a stash of the new volumes waiting to be signed. Sal
turned up from the U.S. and Doug Richardson came up from London too. Steve
Patriquen (late of Canada, but now resident in London) also came along, and
joined on the spot! And Steve also got to win a raffle prize, sadly no
Millennium M6 but hey, not to be sniffed at either!
The highlight, for me, was Denis Thorpe (a previous winner of Ilford's
'Photographer of the Year' title) regaling us with an hour and a half of
marvellous memories about his press work since 1948.
For others the tour of 'Station X', (Bletchley Park) the code breaking
centre of the British Intelligence Service during WW2 was just as riveting,
the Enigma machines and Collossus were, I believe, available to be seen on
the guided tour.
For those of a more materialistic nature, there were plenty of stalls where
Leica lenses were on sale from 30 UK pounds (a worn Summar) through to the
latest (O Series) cameras straight off the dealer's shelf.
