If it has gone through a poorly adjusted security X-ray, you tend to 
see shadows of adjacent dense object on the film, repeating and in 
decreasing density as you get to the center of the roll. I've seen 
one instance of this in the late 70's in a roll of ASA 400 film that 
was in a Rollei 35; you could clearly see the shadow of the strap 
attachment on the film in a repeating pattern.

If the film was not in a camera or near a dense object, you would get 
an increase in overall density and background fog in a repeating 
pattern, due to the rays being stronger on one side of the roll than 
the other.
