And frankly, faced with choosing a 28 Summicron or a 24 Elmarit, I would choose the 28 without a moment's hesitation. Here's why kids... - - the 28 just don't seem wide! Yes, it distorts less! The lens doesn't even call attention to itself. It just takes the pictures and lets your subjects speak for themselves, with just a bit of extra breathing room. In this world of stretched, distorted, exaggerated perspectives fostered by a million PJs in Afghanistan with with their 17-35 zooms, it's a breath of fresh air. A glass of clear, cool water. A simple window through which the world is viewed. Makes you want to sit down and say "thanks". - - the 28 distorts less! A 28 lets you get reasonable sized subjects in your frame without having to push up within a foot of their noses. It gives people in your pictures a fighting chance of looking like people, not caricatures with eggheads and teeny weeny feet. But if you *want* distortion, a 28 will still give it to you in spades - just push up close, stop her down, and let 'er rip. You want keystoned buildings? Squat down, tilt up that camera and presto! Why drink electric koolaid when the gods made Chateau Petrus? Have a bit of class! Excess is for teenagers (and post-pubescent PJs with their 17-35's). Gonna run home right now and shoot with that new 28!!! :-) Paul
