My Nikon LS-1000 meets the needs for small projects quite well - 8x10 prints
are fine and a couple of 11x14 prints from LS-1000 scans are not bad. For
serious work, a local graphics shop scans my 35mm on an Imacon Flextight for
about $30 a scan. Of course, for web use, the LS-1000 is way more than
adequate.

I have seen refurbished LS-1000 scanners in the $600 range a couple months
ago. They may be even cheaper now.
