For serious work, a local graphics shop scans my 35mm on an Imacon Flextight for about $30 a scan. Of course, for web use, the LS-1000 is way more than adequate. I have seen refurbished LS-1000 scanners in the $600 range a couple months ago. They may be even cheaper now.
