The other story I read regarding his negatives was that they were despatched as undeveloped films back to Magnum HQ for subsequent processing and printing outside of his control. I'm sure all of these things, and more, could well have happened in a life as long as his. I believe the black line around his prints (which became synonymous with the integrity of the controlling photojournalist) came about through the early Leitz negative holders on their enlargers all being made to the oversize format, 25mm x 37mm. Marc, as the historian here, does that ring true with you? I believe this is the case for the puddle jumper and you will probably be unable to read the film stock from a single frame. The guy's been shooting since 1930-something, are we thinking he only used one film, or are we supposed to list every film he's ever used? I'm sure that he'd have tried an awful lot of films over the years. I did rifle through my books yesterday trying to find that picture of a hand holding his famous negative of the Man jumping over the puddle, just to see whether the film stock could be read, but I couldn't locate it. Can anyone remind me?
