Two ways- One, you should be able to feel when the film pulls from the clip
on the spool.... there is some resistance. I also carry a film leader
retriever- and retrieve my own film leader BEFORE I take it to the processor
since most here do withdraw the film from the cassette and put the cassette
on a leader card to run it through the processor. I then cut it or tear it
of myself.
IF all else fails, and the person at the photoshop is decent, you can ask
them to open the cassette in the darkbox and load it into a light tight film
carrier- we had those with our processor for running test strips and doing
film that either could not be withdrawn from the cartridge, or if the
cartridge was damaged!!
