I'm using the SCSI PhotoSmart on a Mac with Vuescan. One thing I did last night that probably made a difference was to eliminate most of the SCSI chain between the scanner and the computer. I also delved more into Vuescan than before; I try to avoid automatic settings but the "auto levels" color balance thing made a difference too.
