A source in Solms has told me that Leica plans to introduce the "pw" variant
of the 0 series. This edition will be limited to 250 cameras. Leica suggests
that this camera is particularly noteworthy because it is pre worn. Rather
than have to wait 30-50 years for the camera to develop a decent patina,
Leica carefully brasses the camera, creates perfect strap marks, a perfect
tripod mark, and cleaning marks on the lens that are certified by Erwin Puts
not to cause detectable flare. For purists, a stick on set of rangefinder
marks is included. This camera is priced at $500.00 over the O. For those
Leicaphiles who desire this camera to be a war souvenir, Leica has arranged
for no more than 50 cameras in the pw series to be marked with the
identification number of a German soldier and the camera will be delivered
with a photograph of the camera being taken from the German soldier by an
American, British, French, or Russian soldier according to the purchaser's
desire. There is an additional $650.00 charge for this service.
