Nothing else affects the actual metered area. The preselector lever allows you to see what would happen IF you were to change lenses....what new area would the film see... but it does nothing to affect the metered area. On a M6 .72, the area of the meter is approximatley the area of the 90mm frame lines, if you have a 50mm ( I think it is 50mm ) lens mounted. Use this logic: you have a 50mm lens mounted and want to see what area your M6 is metering, push the lever to the 90mm point. The area in the "box" is approximately what the meter sees....
