Dan ( Did someone say- "Pork Lips"?) Post - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul Chefurka" <Paul_Chefurka@pmc-sierra.com> To: "LUG (E-mail)" <leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us> Sent: Thursday, January 25, 2001 1:02 PM Subject: [Leica] Travel gear - no advice needed > So I'm off to Belize in mid-February, and like everyone who travels (except Take-it-all Ted) I agonized over what to leave at home. After all, the priorities on this trip are 1 - sun; 2 - snorkeling on that amazing reef; 3 - eco-tours and Mayan ruins. Photography is 1b, 2b and 3b. So I'm not going to lug (you should pardon the expression) 15 kilos of photo gear in my carry-on. > > Fortunately, the decision has just been made a bit easier, due to the arrival of the new 2nd generation Tri-Elmar. Without even seeing a picture from it (I just picked it up an hour ago) I'm in love with this lens. It's light, it's smaller than I expected it's smooth, and it doesn't intrude into the VF too badly. I've got it mounted on a Hexar RF, and it makes a lovely little package. The only flaw I've dound is that the 50mm frame doesn't snap up cleanly when changing from 28 to 50. You have to go back to 35 then to 50 to get a solid lock. No biggie. > > So the gear for Belize is now the 35 Summilux ASPH, the 3E and the 75 Summilux, along with the Hexar, a .58 body and a TT tripod (Oh yeah, and the waterproof Canon P&S for fish portraits). All the space that Ted would have me allocate to the rest of my gear I'm going to fill with film :-) > > Can't wait! > > Paul > >
