>>i've often said the same thing - "gotta use something slower than 400."
but
each time i've done so (usually slowing down to 100), i find that i miss a
hell of a lot of shots, 'cause all things considered, i more often than not
shoot indoors in low light or outdoors at twilight or at night.
the big bright outdoor shots are few and far between.<<

I can't seem to get by with one b/w film. I was using FP4+ and HP5+, and
pushing the latter. But I'm in the process of switching to Neopan 1600
rather than HP5+.

I've used 400 speed film for years, but seems like the last year it's been
too much of a compromise; too fast for outside and too slow for inside.

BTW While playing catch up with my LUG reading I noticed posts about film
resolution, the value of quality lenses, et al. It's all very important
stuff. But no lens is an island. The best lens I bought in recent years was
a Zig-align for my enlarger. It improved ALL my other lenses, considerably.
Plus now I know any bokeh I see is from the taking lens, and not the
enlarger lens :-).
