Op-Tech makes tripod leg covers for about $30, which use a pipe insulation
with a kind-of sock that covers it.  Makes a nice shoulder pad for carrying
the tripod on your shoulder, as well as insulating properties.  Handle bar
tape would be much less bulky, but not as much padding.
