He has taken it to India, Indonesia, Panama and a few harsh climate places. The only problem he has ever had with it was the time when the light proofing stuff on the bacxk cover turned into chewing gum. I gave him a newer cover off another R I have but don't use. Rs, including well prepped R4s are perfectly reliable cameras! The reason he switched is probably the same reason that NBA ball players switch sneaker brands. Money! leaving all us little kids to argue over which brand is really better.
