[Author Prev] [Author Next] [Thread Prev] [Thread Next] [Author Index] [Topic Index] [Home] [Search]To bring this back somewhat into the realm of photography, there was a book recently published called something like, "The Commissar is Missing", about how Stalinist era photo retouchers modified official Party photographs to reflect current status of part members etc. The best is one that appears on the cover. It is the first in a series of photographs depicting Stalin, surrounded by about half a dozen close party officials. One by one, these officials start dissapearing from subsequent photographs, until the final image shows just Stalin, all by himself. It would be laughable, except for the fate of the people removed from these photographs. I suspect that they were removed from a bit more than just the photographs ;-). Dan C.
