Doug (who'd rather be ludicrous than lose a Leica) Cooper Actually, it is a commonplace among travelling photographers who visit dodgy locations: the cheaper your camera looks, the better. You don't want to look like a wealthy tourist, and you don't want to look like a pro. Nobody murders people for point-and-shoots. Which is one of the reasons I adored the Ricoh GR-1: to anyone but a camera geek it looks like a forty-dollar disposable. My dots are fully exposed, but they won't be if I venture too far from Soho. Doug (insert your ad here) Cooper Doug, I go street shooting in the Bronx all the time with never any problem. I generally use an old Leica III which lacks the thief magnet red dot. I might consider a Hello Kitty sticker but that may be pushing my luck. There are some areas I would not consider venturing into with or without a camera. In Soho the biggest danger is running into a camera geek who wants to talk about lens resolution or UV filters. Robert (who lives in the Bronx) Browne
