my apologies in advance for quoting the following bit of apocrypha in toto.
i must say i found this ebay assessment of the summar so fresh and original
that that i wanted to share it with the lug, and especially recommend it to
those who feel the summar is short on sharpness and contrast (which is to
say, just about everyone).

Leica SM 5cm/2 SUMMAR Chrome Standard Vintage. Fits all Leica screwmount
cameras. This is a very interesting lens within the Leica optical line up.
Many regard this lens, optically, as one of the best from Leica. I am not
sure how others feel, but for me, lenses of the 35, 50, 90mm focal lengths
are the 3 most practical focal lengths and optically, a strong reason of
why a Leica system is chosen to invest into. Various Leica owners have
their own specific reasons for buying a Leica, some going for its heritage,
reliability, some are for collection/investment purposes BUT nobody will
doubt one's intention of owning a Leica when it comes to its lenses Early
German lenses generally have higher contrast and thus one of the reasons
why Japanese lenses, (Nikkor in particular, capitalising from it, with
other reasons to make such an easy entry into the quality 35mm market
during the '50s). Especially its performance at wider apertures. The
contrast range remains high throughout and resolve extremely fine details
with distinct clarity and micro contrast; A first rated lens, optically and
mechanically. The condition of this lens is very good, it performes very
well, optically, this lens is capable of taking beautiful, SHARP,
high-resolution, contrast pictures, it is used, and some cosmetic wear is
apparent, the lens has been handled with care, yet performed for an array
of pictures, the barrel shows some wear, espcially on screwmount area,
check pictures, the aperture blades are fully functioning on every f-stop,
the glass is clean and clear, the performance of this lens is by no means,
affected, and taken pictures will come out more than satisfactory; check
pictures, below; moderate reserve! have fun !

would you buy a leica (or anything else that costs hundreds/thousands of
dollars) from this man?

guy
