Well, I see level adjustment (contrast/brightness) in the darkroom being 
paper choice, PC filter, exposure time and aperture...  Nothing evil there.

Personally, I do all that with the scanner (as opposed to PS), so I really 
don't do anything to the image after I scan it, well, except print it.  My 
scanner is kinda setup like an upside down enlarger.  Light source, 
filters, negative carrier, lense, bellows, image sensor...  Only difference 
between it and an enlarger is what the image is projected onto...and where 
the bellows is...
