I haven't tracked the thread all the way back so I may have missed something but it seems to me that any kind of unix even easy to install Linux is a bad idea for a small firm that can't afford a full time Admin. As much as I hate Gates and Microsoft I would still go with NT4 or 5 server. Just pop in the CD and follow the instructions. As for Linux, If your machine isn't standard or has special striping controllers you may have trouble locating drivers or writing your own. Also Linux is not easy to administer though there are xwindows admin packages available, they are nowhere as foolproof as the NT stuff. The great thing about NT is that almost anyone can be an admin, not just the geeks. This is very important if you happen to be out of the office when something stupid happens. or better yet I'de stay with the Novell as long as possible. It's an inmensely robust system, probably because it's so simple. And unless you're running login scripts, it can be compleatly transparent from a win95/98 console. Administration is simple and I would say more comprehensive than NT at least as far as user rights and restrictions go. Save some money!!!! see ya Javier Tim Spragens wrote: > On 27 Oct 00, at 14:30, Chuck Albertson wrote: > > > Could be that Linux is easier to administer, but we're a small firm and > > really can't afford a full-time admin.
