Man, it's just common sense to squeeze the best out of the lens and film ..... if the opportunity allows for that to happen I.E.: slow film, tripod rock steady and the subject not going anywhere!! One would have to be an absolute dumb ass idiot not to do that when the opportunity presents itself! It always is quality first! Isn't it? Otherwise why do it? Although 99% of my career has been "hand held" an Argus A2, Speed Graphic's, Rollie's to Leica whatever model & M - R's. When the situation called for a tripod, I have always relied on the use of the tripod for the ultimate picture recording quality of the moment for absolute perfect exposures! Look this complete idiocy of tripod, slow film etc. has been blown out of context .... common sense when to and when not to..... Look each photographic situation and style determines when and what you are doing and what you have to record. No one style, technique is viable in every photo situation! Erwin has confirmed that already! And what seems to be happening, the technical folks & the hand held folks appear to be squaring off on each other. Which in reality isn't the case. The techie folks explain their side of the equation, we hand held folks do the same and all the folks in the middle, who do a bit of both, are lost in the wordsmith between the two aforementioned shooter styles! And if you can figure out what the hell that means, you're better than I, Christer.;-) As you know, I always do, "keep it simple stupid" in how I use my Leica's to do the best picture taking I can in whatever the moment calls for...... and I do that with the least amount of technical thought. As I'm more concerned for the split second of time recorded first, and the lines per mm second. Always hopeful the Leica will give me an image edge over the guys who don't use a Leica! Isn't that simple common sense logic? I mean, as Tina explained, " why would any photographer use a tripod/slow film for the utmost Leica effect" and loose the picture? That would be pretty stupid. Don't you think? But that isn't what Erwin and a few others have been saying. Just the opposite, "if you wish to experience the utmost Leica effect! Then work in this method, slow film, camera on tripod, stopped down to the appropriate aperture" And that is common sense for the moment of Leica lens quality!! And that technique may mean absolutely nothing to someone who works by their photographic wit's in the jungle or the sports/political arenas of the world. It basically comes down to the photographic moment before the photographer determines which method is required for the ultimate moment before the camera! Hands only?....tripod only? ... the moment determines which is appropriate, not an unwavering method! On either side of the equation. ted
