I did weddings for a number of years. I found that there was an expectation 
for a certain set of formal, almost ritualistic poses, and that people felt 
cheated if you took unposed shots. On the other hand, the only photograph I 
have ever taken that won any kind of award was a
"candid" (unposed) shot of a bride and her father right before her wedding.

These days I am very cynical about photographers at weddings and I often 
feel as though the weddings I attend are managed by the photograhers and 
not by the people being married.
