The new x-ray scanners that destroy film is for checked baggage. I find the best way to carry film is to take the film out of the boxes. I keep them in the plastic cases. I pack 4 rolls of film in a zip-lock snack size bags and then put several of these in one gallon sized zip lock. This allows for easy removal for hand check. I like the 4packs for easy use in the field.
