I think it should be evident.  I recently did a comparison of several
SLR lenses, a 'cron 50, and a well regarded P&S camera.  All shots 
were on the same roll of film, and of the same subject.  A weighted
tripod was used for support. It was obvious that the P&S gave lower
resolution and sharpness.

YMMV depending on the glass used.
