I agree.  As to the battery problem, I went through two sets in the first few 
weeks I owned the camera.  Then I reread the manual and decided on a new 
approach.  Leica advises that the shutter dial should be turned to the OFF 
position when the camera is put away after shooting.  No problems since, 
although it felt weird after a few decades with an M3.
