I have been following this thread with interest not least because I observed
here a few years ago - when Ricoh etc LTM lenses started to become
available - how nice it would be to have modern Leitz ones. Happily I now
have a new 50mm Summicron for my IIIG! But modern Leitz lenses have got
bigger and intrude too much into the viewfinder of pre M cameras. However, a
LTM collapsible Elmar would make a lot of sense - the combination of a
collapsible Elmar on a screw thread is very hard to beat as a compact
camera, and it is a curious lens to have re-issued in an M mount.

Last thought on this is to note that early 35mm Summicrons for M (11308) are
to quote Lager (Illustrated Guide III, p14) "occasionally encountered with a
factory-fitted screw to bayonet adapter held in position by a tiny screw.
Removal of the adapter shows that this type of bayonet-mount Summicron is
actually built on a screw-mount ... chassis."
