As one of those audio techs that builds his own tube gear and knows that it sounds wonderful, I have to say that I do it because it is fun and I like it. Isn't that the whole point, really? (of any endeavour??) Wet darkrooms will be around for some time to come. Will digital get bigger and better? Yes! And I am looking so very foward to those advances. When digital is the equal of wet process, I will probably change to it for color. But I doubt that B+W, (for me, at least) will ever be something that can be done properly on a computer. But again, I really enjoy the Darkroom.
