Ted Grant suggested that Ken Lai's R8 contacts might be the soruce of
the problem.

Hi Ken and Ted,

I've had 'unclean' contact problems with my R8, and with the winder, but
not with the motor (mine is just wonderful so far). The Leica tech's
suggested cleaning the contacts with alcohol and cotton buds, which I
now do from time to time. No problems since I first did this.

One time I did have trouble was when I'd pulled the camera out of its
coolish bag into a very hot and humid indoor sports centre. The ASA
setting wouldn't. When the winder went loopy I took it off and cleaned
the contacts, switched the camera on for several seconds without any
battery connected, then off again, remounted the winder and it worked
fine thereafter.

Have you tried this 'motor off, camera on then off, then motor back on'
procedure? The instruction book suggests it, I seem to recall.

Regards

Rick Dykstra
