Sam, it is a early folding type lens hood, also called "Barn Door" .A very
similar model was also made for the early Summicron lenses and late
Summitars. However it could  only be used with the Summicron and not with the
Summitar  when a filter was attached, because the Summitar filter has the
same diameter as the lens. The hood could then not slip far enough on to the
lens to get a proper grip.

The very early "Barn Doors" however did fit with a filter mounted.
