Well, yes - PopPhoto never, never says anything directly negative about anything. Anything. But some things reap more praise than others so you can read between the lines and make your conclusions - and the charts seem to be right. And IMHO in recent years Leica has had quite good reviews despite relative lack of advertising - and even in the olden times when they had to invent excuses why Leica did not always do very well in the tests.
But the English Practical Photography is more straightforward - I even remember a phrase that was something like "Nikon in name but not Nikon quality" - about some consumer grade Nikon zoom.
Cynical - me, too.
