They know that it is often practice to underdeclare the value of items because of import taxes, so you need too luck if you will use this illegal practice. best wishes Gabriele If you import an item, yes it is liable for whatever local VAT etc. If companies such as DHL, Fedex etc are used, they will also charge an administration fee for clearing the item through customs. In the UK it's about £10. The key factor is the amount of declared value. If the value is declared at a much lower price, then obviously the tax is lower; not always possible to get reputable dealers to engage in this illegal practice. Customs will not check the items if they have been declared by Commercial Invoice by one of these security listed companies. DHL, Fedex just pay the bill and collect from you. - ---------- >From: Nathan Wajsman <wajsman@webshuttle.ch> >To: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us >Subject: Re: [Leica] Re: EU/German Custom >Date: Tue, Aug 8, 2000, 12:44 pm > > Hans-Peter, > > In principle you have to pay customs duty (if any) plus the local VAT, in > your case 16%.
