You see, to me the surprise is not in the Leica/Matsushita collaboration per se--for years Matsushita has been the OEM manufacturer of most (if not all) of the Leica point and shoots. So the partnership is not new. However, the new project does point to a new marketing direction for Leica. Namely, the project positions Leica as a lens specialist--much like what Zeiss has been doing for years. Personally I feel Leica should have made this move years ago.
