Does this cause any appreciable vibration? Yes. It sounds a bit like an SLR if you have the mirror up. > How about the > Hexar RF? Hard to say, since it's hard to tell the shutter from the motor drive. Not much. > Perhaps this is a good excuse for one of our empiricists to > test the same lens (normal or medium tele), target and film on a Leica > M, a Bessa and a Hexar, and see what the results are. Less mass is less vibration, but not necessarily less noise. Leica shutter curtains (rubberized fabic) are actually pretty heavy compared to Canon RF curtains (steel foil) and Hexar shutters (epoxy and titanium). But they make a slightly more muffled sound. Leica and Canon vibration is side-to-side; Konica and Voightlander is up-and-down. > > Reductio ad absurdum (sp?): Perhaps we should all ditch our Leicas, and > start using leaf shutter cameras like the old interchangeable-lens Kodak > Retinas. Or lobby Solms to bring back the Compur-Leica in M mount :-) Or how about a GN-Nikkor-style lens? It's about freaking time. I heard that the Compur-Leica was a dog. And I've had Retinas. I am happy to have my eyesight after that. Dante ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dante Stella http://www-personal.umich.edu/~dante
