While learning a craft may well take two or three years, mastering a craft
can take a lifetime. In my trade, automotive mechanics, it generally takes
ten to fifteen years for a mechanic to become really good, where diagnosis
becomes a seamless blend of knowledge and instinct; and, of course, that
depends upon there being latent talent to develop.
