It is from 1984 and could be a 11215 with three cams or a 11216 with just a
R cam. It has a built in telescoping lens hood and takes E55 filters.

I do not have any "R" stuff but judging by eBay and Leica-user's for sale
Fridays, it worth much less than a similar vintage and condition "M" lens.
Say $300US as compared to $500US.

The 50/2 R is a wonderful lens. If you can't return it you could always pick
up a couple of used R3's or R4's for under $300 apiece, a previous gen. 28
Elmarit for about $450, a 90 Summicron for about $500, a 2x for about $250,
and even a 400/6.8 for $700. For about $2500 plus whatever you paid for the
50 you'd have a fairly complete R system with 2 bodies and great glass from
28-400. Try and do that in M!
Used R system is, IMHO, the biggest bargain ground in 35mm-dom, considering
what you pay and what you get (bodies aside).
