The cement between the elements and the glass itself contains UV inhibitor that is as good as, probably better than, any UV filter. Therefore, a UV filter is useless for inhibiting UV as the lens does it already. Jim <<<<< I translated a spectacle lens technical document - zeiss or roìdenstock or whatever - some time back and was struck by the assertion that _all_ glass spectacles offer full UV protection, there was no need to have special coatings etc.. Maybe I got hold of the wrong end of the stick, but since then I've been wondering about the need for UV filters for UV protection. I just use them for dirt etc. protection. Rob. Robert Appleby V.
