All mechanical, solid as a rock, never had ANY quality control problems that I know of and SMALL...which for me scores big. I have dragged my R6.2 and R7 through the jungles of Guatemala, Chiapas Mexico, Honduras, Belize where it never had a hitch. Right along side my Hassy 500c/m... I like the R7 as well, though I wish it was not battery dependent. I must add that I never had a problem with that camera either, but it seems that the risk is greater because of the electronics. I love the half shutterspeeds. The R8 is great -and certainly has the nicest ergonomics- but it is simply too big for me personally. I must add that they do sell much better than the R6.2 or R7 or another other R camera that I have had. This may mean that I have a somewhat unusual view of the "best" R camera for my personal photography. I guess it is all a matter of perspective. later, Rich
