My understanding of why Leica doesn't want filters on superwides is that
towards the edges and corners, the light is travelling obliquely through the
filter, not perpendicular. Effectively, the filter is thicker and does not
have parallel surfaces toeward the edges, as compared to the center. This
problem is solved by putting the filters internally.
