Leica's current strategy seems to be to sell cameras the way Bang & Olufsen sells stereos--lots of emotional appeal there, the kind that makes you desire the product despite some apparent shortcomings. Fortunately, I think the Leica M is closer to a Linn Sondek (stylish, expensive, spartan, very satisfying to use) than a B&O (stylish, expensive, fun to make the glass doors slide open) I have Leslie at Leica USA looking for a Code U R8 for me to purchase later this year (when I hopefully have cash). I pretty much figured out how everything worked just fussing with the camera for a few minutes, and that's a very good thing. I am also considering a refurbished N***n F100 at $925. Seems impressively solid but not so immediately obvious how to use it--as the control wheel can do many things depending on what mode it's in, it's not so easy to use by touch alone and the electric DOF preview clatters more than I'd like.
