There is a purpose for the film basket. The film does not know whether you
have a Rapidwinder or an ordinary base plate mounted. Therefore, it only
make sense to put the basket on whatever base plate you are using.
Rapidwinder or Leica. The reason it is there is to insure that the film is
pushed up over the sprocket. If you are in a habit of pushing the film up
over the sprocket with your fingers before putting on the base plate, then
the basket serves no purpose. But I don't trust my getting the film all the
way up every time, especially in the dark. So I too use the basket on my
Rapidwinders.
