If you were willing to talk photography in a convivial and knowledgeable manner with him for an hour or two you could get incredible bargains. If you needed something fast, you were better off going to another store. The front half of the main floor is the normal sales area; the back the staff and storage area. The upstairs is stuff you never thought you'd see again, packed to the ceiling. Actually, I don't know what's there now as I haven't been up there since Leo passed the store management on to his son about 10 years ago. Now the prices are better, at times even quite competetive. They have a number of fairly knowledgeable staff, and when they get to know you you can talk them down to a reasonable price a hell of a lot faster than I ever could with Leo, but in the end Leo went down further! An interesting store. As I wrote to Bill, there are two other stores worthy of consideration (plus a bunch of others that aren't): Lens & Shutter, about 2900 W. Broadway, which doesn't usually have much used stuff as their prices tend to be quite reasonable, and Kerrisdale Cameras, about 2100 W. 41st., which often has a lot of used stuff, due to terrible prices (and aren't nearly as personable as Leo's staff). * Henning J.
