Sodium Bisulfite is put in D23 to make it D25 for that very reason you describe. It lowers the pH so it spends more time in D23's high sulfite environment. Mush grain is the result. Your focusing magnifier in you darkroom shows you a mushroom field! Prints look like someone put Vaseline paste on the front element of a lens! Mark Rabiner
