The screw thread is 39mm x 0.75 not the 39mm x 0.5 of the E39 standard.
Series 5.5 filters are held in place by the hoods of the 40 Summicron-C & 90
Elmar-C lenses. Difficult to find second hand, series 5.5 filters can be
ordered new from B & W (Schneider). Special order, but they arrive
eventually!
